Building Community Through Rugby: A Perfect Day in Battery Park City!

Posted on

Great things happen when communities come together, and our rugby clinic on Friday, June 6th, was a perfect example! In a wonderful partnership with Battery Park City Parks, we were able to bring a fun-filled, three-hour introduction to rugby to the neighborhood.

It was a true community affair. We were thrilled to welcome over 30 local kids, aged 6 and up, to the field. Our Rugby4All coaches, Chris Mattina and Hubert Chan, were joined by three inspiring guest coaches from the New York Rugby Club women’s team, who volunteered their time to share their skills with the next generation.

Together, we created a welcoming environment where kids could learn everything from scoring a try to working as a team. After learning the basics, the afternoon was filled with games that were buzzing with excitement and new friendships.

The response was overwhelmingly positive, with kids and parents alike asking about future programs. We’re thrilled to be building on this success and are currently planning a more extensive 6-8 week program with Battery Park City Parks for the fall semester.

A huge thank you to Battery Park City Parks for being such fantastic partners, to the players from NYRC for lending their expertise, and to the supporters of Rugby4All whose contributions allow us to create these valuable community connections. This is how we grow the game, together!
